Meghan Schnur is an exceptionally talented athlete, making her mark on the professional and international soccer scene.  Known for her relentless work ethic, Meghan has been accomplishing great feats on the soccer field since she was very young.

Schnur hails from Butler, Pennsylvania, where she began playing soccer at five years old.  She later was a star at Butler High School where she was named All-Section, All-Conference, All-State, All-Region, McDonald’s All-American and Parade All-American during her illustrious high school soccer career.  In addition, she captained school’s track team for two years, all while maintaining an impressive grade point average. Schnur was a member of the National Honor Society and honored as an Academic All-American.

Meghan was a highly touted recruit and chose to attend the University of Connecticut, brought in as an impact player.   She certainly made an impact on the Huskies’ program early and often, starting 22 games as a freshman and helping to lead her team to the NCAA Final Four, with the second most assists in the Big East and third most goals on her team.  For her stellar performance, she was named the Big East Rookie of the Year the All-Big East first team.  In her sophomore season, Schnur continued her dominance and was named Big East Midfielder of the Year and, once again, to the All-Big East First Team.  In her senior season, Meghan scored 4 game-winning goals and was honored as an NSCAA First Team All-American. Meghan ended her collegiate career with 28 goals and 20 assists.  Through all her athletic successes, Meghan remained dedicated to academic excellence, and earned her undergraduate and masters’ degrees in physical therapy.

Schnur’s extensive experience with US National Soccer began prior to her arrival at UConn as a member of the U16 National Team. She scored three goals for the U-19 team, including one against China and one against Germany, and helped them to a third place finish in the 2004 World Championships.  Meghan finished her U-23 career with 7 caps, and, most notably, started in three games to help her U-23 team capture the 2008 Nordic Cup.  She was called up to the Women’s National Team in 2009, and has since earned 5 caps.  Schnur clearly has a bright future in store on the international stage.

Meghan was picked 11th overall by New Jersey’s Sky Blue FC in the inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer League draft in 2009.  She was the only player on Sky Blue FC to start and play in all 20 regular season games and play in every minute of each playoff game. Schnur was instrumental in helping Sky Blue earning the final spot in the playoffs, and then helped them win every single game on the road as Sky Blue made a storybook run to win the inaugural WPS Championship.  In addition to controlling the defensive end of the field with uncanny prowess, Meghan recorded two assists on the year.

Schnur’s father is the principal at Butler High School and her mother is a teacher.  Meghan enjoys reading, going on long drives, and attempting to snowboard.
