Joey Porter is a 4-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion, known for his tenacity and veteran leadership. He currently plays linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals and serves as a football analyst on the Versus television show, The Daily Line. Joey was born in Kansas City, Missouri, but was raised in Bakersfield, California, where he was a star wide receiver and running back for the Foothill High School Trojans. He earned a degree in exercise and sport science from Colorado State University, where he was a standout on the field for the Rams. Porter was drafted in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and immediately began making his mark on the professional level. He made his first of four Pro-Bowl appearances in 2002, when he was selected First Team All-Pro. Joey also went to the Pro Bowl as a Steeler in 2004 and 2005. In 2005, he was integral in the Steelers' Super Bowl winning season, tying a career high with 10.5 sacks and adding 56 tackles, two interceptions, and four forced fumbles. Porter served as the Steelers' defensive co-captain in the 2006-2007 season. He signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2007 and helped the team to the 2008 AFC East Championship in his fourth Pro-Bowl season. In January of 2010, Joey was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Second Team, and in March of that year, he joined the Arizona Cardinals, where he is sure to make a huge impact beginning this fall. Porter and his wife, Christy, still reside in Bakersfield with their four children, Jayla, Jasmine, Joey Jr. and Jacob. |
