After a stellar four-year junior career with his hometown Sudbury Wolves, Duguay was selected by the Rangers in the first-round of the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. From the moment he took the ice for his first Ranger game in October 1977, Ron Duguay was a player fans couldn't help but notice. He quickly made an impression at the NHL level by scoring 20 goals in his rookie year. In the following two seasons he would boost his total to 27 and 28 goals. Duguay was named to Team Canada for the 1981 Canada Cup tournament. The experience and intensity of international play proved to be invaluable for Ron. In 1982 he returned to the NHL and fired home a career-high 40 goals and was selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game. Notwithstanding his on-ice success and rugged good looks, it was his humble and charismatic personality which made him a major celebrity in New York City. In the late 70's and throughout the 80's Ron was widely known as a pop icon and a sex symbol. He appeared in several TV commercials and on the cover of dozens of popular magazines. His most popular appearances were his commercial for Sasson designed jeans and the cover of Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine. Duguay was traded to Detroit in 1983 and subsequently had his best offensive year during the 1984-85 season, when he scored 38 goals and 89 points. The following season he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins before returning to the Rangers in 1986 for another 82 games with the team. Duguay finished his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings in 1988-89. After 12 years in the NHL Ron retired and eventually moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida with his wife, supermodel, Kim Alexis. Together the couple has raised five children. In the years that followed Ron would divide his time between coaching minor-league hockey (Jacksonville Barracudas/Atlantic Coast Hockey League) and working for the Rangers front office in community/corporate relations. Ron Duguay joined MSG in 2007 and currently serves as a hockey analyst for the New York Rangers. Duguay can also be seen as a regular guest on MSG’s comprehensive weekly hockey show “Hockey Night Live.” In 2009, Ron became the second oldest player to play in a professional hockey game when he was asked to lace up his skates once again and help raise money for the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a nonprofit organization associated with Madison Square Garden. On March 21st and 22nd, 2009, Duguay played in a game apiece for the minor league hockey teams the Brooklyn Aces and the Jersey Rockhoppers. Staying true to his own form, Duguay signed a waiver so that his long curly hair would blow behind him as he skated without a helmet just as he did when he played in the NHL. With merely 37 seconds left in regulation, Duguay assisted on the game-tying goal, but the Aces would lose 4-3 in overtime. Ron, his wife and their five children currently reside in Wayne, New Jersey. Along with the numerous charities Duguay contributes his time to, he also produces his own charity hockey events.
